Water, Oleg!
Water!
Water, Peter!
Peter, enough! Get out of there!
I want food. I want water!
Valerie, I have a present for you.
Water.
Not salty!
Not salty.
Not salty at all.
Peter!
One, two,…
We had jobs in Donetsk.
From the beginning I have worked in chemical industry.
Babooshka.
Babooshka, yes.
Not babooshka, no.
Not babooshka, no.
Babooshka.
Thank you.
One, two, three… [counting]
Father, what did Peter teach you?
The most important thing for me is that our country, Ukraine, is a good country.
Yes, we have lack of money,
the economy is not so developed,
but people, people’s mentality…
So…
I understood that good people live here.
People who help each other.
For example, the loss of the phone,
it was returned.
At first, when he just got here,
people were a bit afraid of him.
But after they saw the news about him
and about his goal here:
to see how Ukrainian people live.
And then they opened up for him. They drive by,
stop to say hello to him,
invite him over for a cup of tea,
meet him at bus stops, ask him questions.
That was good impression for me.
-Peter. -Vladik.
Vladik, nice to meet you.
Goodbye.
Come over again, we can ride one more time.
Look how fat they are, just like cutlets.
Delicacy.
Yes.
It’s no secret that not all people accepted it well,
because we read the comments,
accepted it with understanding, we don’t judge anybody,
but this is how we bring up our children.
And we, as parents, consider it right.
And we have that right.
They’ll be ready to face the difficulties of their adult lives.
They will know that they can grow something,
that they can raise an animal to eat it later,
so they are not afraid of killing a goose
or a chicken.
We think that our children are growing up better than we did.
Did you tell him how to get to the shop?
Yes.
And buy yoghurts from vendors?
And chocolates and bananas.
Okay, mom, what did Peter teach you?
We looked… I looked at the family from the different side,
at everyday things which happen here.
Our daily life turned out to be not so “daily,”
because you can see from the other side that everything is joyful,
we always laugh.
Ukraine is great!
We arrived here when ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) has just begun
in Donbass.
We came here as a family, to Osypenko.
We had no money, no nothing;
only clothes.
I mean I came in here, took these stones,
brought them home and made mosaics on the house.
What have I taught him?
That he is capable of much more
than he imagined.
Meaning that he overcame some
barriers in himself, in his mind and spirit.
By eating that fly, for example.
Not everybody can do that.
He…
Challenged himself, he became stronger.
He saw with his own eyes
that you can cope with a lot of problems
just by sticking together and working in tandem.
What a great shot!
I taught him to wash the dishes in cold water.
Yes, Peter wants to help all the time.
When he sees me doing something, he comes up to me immediately.
He takes the shovel, all the buckets, right out of my hands.
He wants to try everything we do, how we live.
During these 6 weeks he hasn’t stayed in his room, not once.
He was involved in our life from morning till night.
I am…
Independent.
Independe…
In-de-pen-dent.
Independent.
I can.
I can.
By myself.
By myself.
I can do it by myself. Independent.
I can do it by myself.
Peter, it’s time to eat.
He’s a cheerful and open-minded man.
He’s easy-going.
He never hides anything about his life.
And so do I in return.
It’s all about our communication.
I’m gonna miss it.
Valery, come here, come here.
To the well.
There! It’s on you!
In addition,
I’m a cheerful person,
I like to laugh!
He responds really well to humor, to jokes.
Valery,
Screw.
You.
Somebody taught him to say that!
That`s Ukraine for you!
Even if he doesn’t understand something,
he stays in this joyful mood.
And if he sees that somebody is down,
he tries to cheer them up.
As much as he can.
We will pray for him.
Two… C`mon.
3, 4, 5, 6, 7… [counting]
30!
This is Anna.
I will be living with Anna and her family for 6 weeks.
31, 32, 33, 34… [counting]
That`s it, we`re here!
Osypenko!
Osypenko, we`re here!
42, 43, 44, 45… [counting]
Forty seven, forty eight, forty nine,
forty ten…
I’m Valera.
We`ll be waiting for you, Peter.
I won’t forget you.
Come again, Peter. We will be waiting.
This is Mark.
Mark!
Say “Hello!”, say “Hello!”
Say “bye, Peter!”
Peter. Pleased to meet you.
That’s it, Peter. It’s time to put your stuff on the train.
Bye.
Peter.
Maxim.
Dude!
I love you, dude!
I love you, family!
Say “hi” to San Francisco.
Bye.
[still counting]
Peter finished.
